Canadian authorities have identified a 27-year-old student as the author of the attack on Sunday night against a mosque in Quebec City, northeast Canada, which has left six dead and eight wounded.
According to the Canadian channel CBC, the suspect is named Alexandre Bissonnette, lives in a suburb of the city where the massacre occurred, and studied anthropology and political science at a local university.
The young man has a history of provocative opinions and antisocial behavior. A person in charge of an organization that works with refugees assured the newspaper that Bissonnette had made abusive comments against members of a chat room., reported the local newspaper La Presse
The organization Bienvenue aux Refugiés also assured on its Facebook page that it had made comments against feminists and foreigners, in addition to expressing its sympathy for the French far-right party Frente Nacional.
The shooting, which has coincided with the strong controversy generated by President Donald Trump's orders against immigrants from seven Muslim countries, took place at the Islamic Center of Quebec at around 8:00 pm local time, when a subject broke into the premises and opened fire.
The police initially identified two people as possible perpetrators of the massacre, but later clarified that one of them was actually a witness to the events who was cooperating with the authorities.
