Mother Sentenced To Death For Burning Her Daughter Alive

Knowing her daughter had married a man she did not like and without her consent it was too much for Parveen Bibi, a woman from Pakistan who preferred to murder her by burning her alive than to see her with the wrong husband.

With the help of her son Anees Rafique, the woman tied the newlywed Zeenat Rafiq, 18, to a crib and soaked her in kerosene before setting her on fire.

When the neighbors heard the screams and came to the house, the family did not allow them to enter. Finally, when the police were able to access the home, they discovered the charred body of the young girl, according to authorities.

The details of this heinous crime committed in June last year were revived in a Lahore court, which on Monday sentenced Bibi and her son, the victim's brother, to life in prison.

According to CBS News, the young girl had married last June without her parents' consent with her boyfriend Hassan Khan, who stated that they had been in love since they were both students.

After repeatedly seeking the consent of Zeenat's parents to marry unsuccessfully, the couple married without the blessing of the bride's parents.

According to the widower's testimony, his wife went to her mother's house under the promise that they would arrange a celebration for her wedding, when his true intention was to murder her for having tainted "the honor" of the family.

The police who went to the scene of the crime testified that when arresting the mother, they confessed their authorship and assured that "they had nothing to regret."

The Pakistan Human Rights Commission reports in its reports that at least 1,000 women were killed by their own relatives in the name of family honor in 2015.
