Free Mother Who Raped Her Daughter's Boyfriend

A Dover, Delaware judge granted parole to a 46-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to rape after having sex with her teenage daughter's 13-year-old boyfriend.

Eliane Goodman had pleaded guilty last November and was facing up to 15 years in prison when Judge Robert B. Young decided to grant her probation for proving that, despite having committed an "aberration," she is a compassionate woman not just for taking care of his elderly parents, but also for his work on behalf of other members of the community.

"This [decision] did not come out of the blue," Young warned. "The crime is blatant and affected the victim and his family, and all this has been taken into account, but prison is not the solution."

Defense attorney James E. Ligouri assured at the court hearing that "there is kindness" in her defendant and that "she too has recognized that what she did is wrong and feels humiliated by this experience."

Goodman tearfully acknowledged that his actions had done "damage," which was "terrible."

According to the case file, the teenager broke into Goodman's house on March 15, 2015 at dawn and had sexual relations in the woman's car. Being a minor, although there was no force, it is legally considered a violation.

The minor later recounted his experience to those responsible for a child help center. As it was a crime against a minor, the name of the victim and the name of Goodman's daughter were not disclosed.
