A little over a month after the brutal kidnapping and murder of the girl of indigenous origin Yuliana Samboní shook Colombia, the architect of a good family accused by the authorities confessed to being the author of the crime.

Rafael Uribe Noguera appeared before a judge on Wednesday to face the charges of aggravated femicide, simple kidnapping and violent carnal access that he faces for his assault on the minor.

Through a videoconference from the La Picota prison in Bogotá, the 37-year-old architect accepted the charges, but not before alleging that he was under the influence of hallucinogens when he committed the crimes.

The audience was attended by the girl's parents, Nelly Muñoz and Jubencio Samboní, who since the girl was seized by the accused in front of their own home have experienced a real ordeal.

According to Caracol TV, the mother passed out in the middle of the hearing when the prosecutors presented the evidence against the accused.

Uribe Noguera confessed to having kidnapped the girl to take her to his apartment, sexually abuse her and later take her life by suffocating her.

Everything that happened, said the prisoner, was "in a moment of madness caused by drugs," according to statements collected by the BBC.

Investigators in the case have concluded that the crime was covered up by relatives of the accused, who was fully aware of his actions. They indicate that in the investigations they found that Uribe tortured the girl for six hours before killing her at her home.

After his guilty plea, the court must determine the sentence that corresponds to the convict, who could reach 60 years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed by law in Colombia.

Despite Uribe Noguera's confession, the case still has loose ends, as investigations are still pending into an alleged complicity of his brothers and the death of the warden of the building where the crime occurred, which apparently was a suicide.

The man was found dead a few days after the murder of the girl was known.

In addition, the investigation took a new turn when a video was discovered of one of the seven security cameras in the building where the architect lived in which the confessed murderer and the warden are seen talking for several minutes in the basement of the property, known as Team 66. The conversation, according to Noticias Caracol, took place at 9:40 am, that is, when the 7-year-old girl was already kidnapped.
