The popular announcer of the radio station Mega97.9 FM in New York Jean Paul Guerrero lost his life when he was hit by a driver who fled.

Authorities released a video from a nearby surveillance camera that captured the moment Guerrero, professionally known as DJ Jinx Paul, was rammed and have asked the public to help find the driver of the car, a Nissan Maxima.

The 39-year-old radio communicator and father of a 6-year-old son was crossing the street between Sheffield and Jamaica avenues in Queens County around 4 a.m. Monday when the car hit him.

According to the CBS2 channel in New York, Robert Grant, witness to the event, stated that a black car took the victim in front of him in the middle of the street. "When she fell, she hit her head. She got out of the car, looked at what happened and left."

Grant described the driver as a woman in her 20s and 30s.

The announcer originally from Ecuador had taken his first steps on the radio at age nine. Little by little it made its way into nightclubs before jumping onto the radio waves, Mega reported.

The news of Guerrero's death mourned all the radio in Spanish of the Big Apple and his colleagues went to the networks to pay him a posthumous tribute

"Our listeners have been calling to express their pain at this loss," SBS programming director Jesús Salas told the Daily News newspaper. "He was not just an announcer, he also worked for the community."
