After much uncertainty about whether the famous Coachella music festival would take place, its managers finally decided to cancel the annual event due to the coronavirus.

On Tuesday afternoon, through its social networks, the festival announced that it will not take place in April as planned, but in October.

“As this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the instructions and protocols issued by the public health authorities, the statement said.

Coachella is the second spring music festival to be canceled in the United States due to the coronavirus, after South by Southwest, which was supposed to take place in March.

This health crisis is not only affecting the stages of the United States, since several artists have decided to postpone their international tours until further notice.

Among the first to make that decision was Maluma, who canceled the presentation he had planned in Italy. Guitarist Carlos Santana also announced that he has canceled his European tour, and Mexican regional music singer Julión Alvarez confessed that this crisis is affecting his career.

For their part, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias are about to start a tour together for the first time and so far they have not expressed the cancellation of any date.

On Wednesday morning, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus outbreak as a global pandemic.

"We are concerned about the alarming levels of spread and the alarming levels of inaction," said the director general of the multilateral organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, at a press conference.
