Yesterday, Thursday, January 9, Kate Middleton turned thirty-eight in the midst of the unusual drama that now reigns at Buckingham Palace. Perhaps that was why the date went largely unnoticed by the international media, at the news of the withdrawal touch played by her brothers-in-law, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who fell like a lead among the British royal family.

The Duchess of Cambridge arrived last night to celebrate her birthday in the strictest privacy, behind the wheel of her car and with a sad face that we don't usually see in her. Quite emaciated, the tension of the moments they were living as a family could be read on her face.

It is not known for sure who accompanied the duchess during her birthday dinner, we assume that her children are safe. The only member of her family we saw arrive was her dad, also with a serious face and alone in her car. If your mother or siblings came to celebrate Prince William's wife, there is no graphic material at the moment to tell us.

The Dukes of Cambridge will remember Kate Middleton's birthday with a bittersweet flavor from yesterday: it will also be the day that Harry, the prince's little brother and Kate's mischievous brother-in-law, decided to face everyone for the love of Meghan Markle and the day that the Hollywood actress who decided to leave everything for love, flew to leave the United Kingdom behind and return to the free life in America that she must have longed for so much.

It is sad to think how these two young families who were so close just a year ago, now take different directions.

Hopefully time will smooth out rough edges and the brothers we all remember so helpless in front of their mother's coffin, now know how to find themselves as adults, while everyone finds their place in the world.

At the moment there is much to negotiate and it will be the queen and Prince Charles who have the last word on how to accommodate the wishes of the rebellious prince to the future of the British monarchy.
