Walter Mercado's life and work was magnificent, fabulous, unique. And this is exactly how the family of the famous Puerto Rican astrologer will send him off in his funeral to be held starting today and until Friday in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Walter loved flowers. He will wear a wardrobe made with velvet, which changes from violet to navy blue … The piece has gold decorations and applications, "said Tuesday in a press release issued by the family. "In the place the smell of incense will reign, so the atmosphere will be mystical."
Mercado passed away this Saturday, November 2 at age 87 from kidney problems. His services began today at. 1:00 pm local time, with a "Commemoration of Life" at the Puerto Rico Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral will take place on Friday the 8th at El Señorial Memorial Park and Funeral Home. The place will show photographs of the astologist who had his beginnings as an actor and dancer.
Local newspapers today showed photos of the public formed in the place to be able to say goodbye to it.
Mercado left a few months after opening the exhibition Much, Much Love: 50 Years by Walter Mercado, a tribute to his distinguished career that was installed at the History Miami Museum.
He also participated in a documentary about his life that Cristina Costantini co-directed. "[Walter] was our Oprah [ Winfrey], our Mr. Rogers, Liberace and spiritual advisor in one," the filmmaker told The New York Times. "He handled a kind of astrology that was definitely positive."
