With coronavirus, many things have changed in our lives, including the way we wash our hands, the way we interact with others, and the way we see the hygiene of everything we touch and use. That includes the beauty products we use, such as creams, oils, and of course makeup. These are usually prone to catching bacteria and that is something that at this time we should avoid taking the necessary measures.

Although brushes are the ones that most retain dirt and therefore bacteria, moisturizers, serums, oils and other skin care products are very prone to saving germs, mold or bacteria. That's why we spoke to Ee Ting, a molecular biologist, cosmetic chemist, and founder of the Hop & Cotton brand, who gave us great advice to keep our products as hygienic as possible.

1- Keep them in the right place

Cosmetic products should be kept in a place that is clean. Avoid buying products that are outdoors or that are exposed to environmental changes.

2- Clean the containers regularly

Regularly clean the outside of your creams, especially if you take your products to places like the gym, the beach or even to your car. Always wash your hands before opening using any product.

3- Choose products with airtight lid

Containers with airtight lids prevent microbes from entering. Not all products that have pumps are considered airtight, only those that do not allow air to pass between the part where the cream is to the dispenser.

4- Avoid storing them in the bathroom

Microbes feed on moisture and heat. Then the bathrooms are the perfect places for them to appear. It is better to keep the products in a cooler and drier place.

5- Do not reuse the container

Washing the containers with detergent or soap is not enough to leave them disinfected. So avoid reusing them for other beauty products.
