The first time she noticed a lump on her left breast 6 years ago, she didn't want to think for a moment that it could be cancer. “I was too scared, too healthy, too strong and with four daughters under the age of 8. It couldn't be that,”says Lisa Smith, a breast cancer survivor who went through two extirpations, eight months of chemotherapy, and 7 weeks of daily radiation. After the treatment, Lisa and her daughter Mia, who was then 6 years old, started the Make Cents of Breast Cancer campaign, with which they have raised more than "really?" I screamed. I was so excited and so happy that she chose me.
Thalia: No, no, I think it was you, with your example of bravery, who chose me. You have been through everything and for my team and for me now it is about making you happy, that you are relaxed, that you do not think about those days, that you are yourself and enjoy yourself. That is why we are here.
Lisa: Thank you very much.
People en español: Why is this cause important to you? Do you have any personal connection?
Thalia: Yes, I have many dear friends who have been through it. In fact, one of my friends opened her own center, the Eva Dubin Breast Center in Mount Sinai. They are facilities where from the moment you arrive you no longer have to go to another specialist and then to another and another, the patient receives all his treatment in the same center. I've been supporting her in the center from day one. As a woman, it is very important to support other women, it is as basic as drinking water every day.
Lisa: yes, and [when you're sick] you need that support, it's important to have someone.
Thalia: Feeling like you have a network of people around you that you can trust and be comfortable with.
People en español: On other occasions you have allocated benefits from your collection, Thalía Sodi for Macy´s, to cancer research, but what has made you decide this year to go a step further and do this fashion session and beauty with a survivor?
Thalia: This is about having a good time, for [Lisa] to relax and feel pampered. It's time to laugh and have fun.
Lisa, how do you think clothing and styling can help you feel good about yourself?
Lisa: OMG, when you feel pretty and feel like you are wearing the perfect outfit you feel like you can conquer the world. I feel completely different right now. You feel empowered.
Thalia: It empowers you, yes, but it is like a mental illusion because you are already beautiful.
Lisa: I feel like inside I know I'm a good person and I feel beautiful, but for a long time it wasn't like that.
People en español: Due to your diagnosis?
Lisa: Yes.
Thalia: You don't have time to think about anything, that doesn't exist at the moment. I feel a little identified with you because of my little experience with Lyme disease, when you go through something like that you can't get out of bed, you can't think of anything, but the moment you take a shower, someone does your hair, you put on some blush …
People en español: So is it when you feel more sure of yourself?
Lisa: Yes, right now, with the perfect look and the perfect makeup and hair … I feel very safe inside and out. When my family has seen me, everyone has smiled, and my husband, when I got out of the [hairdressing] chair, I was like "Hello, it's me, we've known each other for 15 years."
Thalia: I had little stars in my eyes!
They have chosen clothes from the Thalia Sodi for Macy's collection. What is your favorite garment from the collection?
Thalia: When we were selecting clothes, she asked me about the jeans I am wearing. OMG I love these pants! Because they are high at the waist, but they are very comfortable and give you extra support in the abdomen area. They are perfect, like a second skin. I also love jumpsuits because they serve you for a casual look or you can add accessories for a more arranged look.
If you also want to collaborate with the cause, Thalia has designed two t-shirts with the messages "Fearless" (without fear) and "Today I Will Live Life To The Fullest" (today I will live life to the fullest) that will be for sale at Macy's ´s and macys.com for $ 29.50 and 10 percent of each sale will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Marcia Cross Learned Her Anal Cancer Likely Caused By Same HPV Strain As Husband's Throat Cancer
In 2009, Marcia Cross was helping her husband, Tom Mahoney, through the grueling treatment for his throat cancer. He went into remission, but nearly a decade later, his disease came up again when Cross was diagnosed with anal cancer. Doctors suspect that both of their cancers came from the same type of HPV, or human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted disease.
