Elegance and glamor reigned in our cover story where actress Zoë Saldaña dazzles with the most spectacular gala dresses of the autumn season. The stylist of the stars Irma Martínez was in charge of creating each of the nine looks of the fashion editorial and with her we talked about all the details of the experience.

How did the concept of the story come about?

In my meeting with Zoe, she entered commenting on the situation of the island with her people having work. She did not want to see herself as the Hollywood star very distant from the reality of the Cuban people and there, when we started our fitting, we talked a little more about a story in which she opened a trunk that could be her grandmother, kept for years where I found these beautiful dresses that told a story. We decided that it would be perfect to do it barefoot, with little makeup, natural hair, without ostentatious jewelry, or high shoes. You only see glamorous shoes in the short red dress.

How would you describe the dresses?

They were all beautiful! I would have liked to use them all since I saw a place for each one of them in the corners of Havana. My only disappointment was not being able to use them all.

How many dresses did you bring

Around thirty.

Which designers did you use and why them?

I tried to use more than all Latin designers like Carolina Herrera, Alexandra Vidal, Ángel Sánchez, Johanna Ortiz and Óscar Carvallo but I also wanted to have the contrast of fashion in different cultures and that's why I included other international designers, among them Nicolás Jebran and Galia Lahav and vintage pieces from my own collection that I always use in my work.

How was the experience of making a photo session in the middle of the streets of Cuba?

The experience was fantastic. For me, my priority was to make the artist feel good. I always worry that nothing happens to clothing because it is my responsibility while it is in my possession. It was difficult that the dresses did not get dirty on the street, that they did not sweat, taking care of the rhinestones, putting hooks that did not damage the materials, but Zoe is so pro that she made the job easy for me. I really liked seeing people on the street happy. Even though they came to see they never bothered. On the contrary, they enjoyed it a lot.

Tell us what it was like to work with Zoe when choosing the dresses?

Very cool since she knows what looks good on her, she knows not only brands but styles. And she had fun with each garment. In addition, he knows how to wear any garment he wears with style. It gets into character immediately.

How was the experience on a personal level for you?

My personal experience was one of mixed feelings, one where you arrive with all of a glamor at a destroyed city that seems divine to you on the one hand and you see a lot of misery on the other. As a stylist I have to create an editorial and tell a story with some fabulous clothes without losing the essence of the background. I liked the opportunity to learn more about Cuban culture, from its people, those who have always lived there. Living in Miami so long ago I know closely the history of Cubans in exile. I was infected with the joy of its people and that music is heard everywhere.
