Kassandra Fernández was chosen this Thursday as the new Miss Dominican Republic US and next year she will represent the entire Dominican community in the United States in the Miss Dominican Republic Universe pageant.
The 18-year-old girl, representative of the city of Santiago, was crowned at a ceremony in New York City.
"I am extremely excited, happy and very happy," says the new queen, who was born in the Big Apple and is a forensic psychology student. "I did my best and I didn't think about the result, but about the moment."
Fernández, who prevailed over 14 other contestants of Dominican origin, wants to promote education among young people and would like to be a detective.
"Right now at school I am helping students who have difficulty studying," shared the queen. "Young people are the future. That is my goal, to help them.”
