A woman of Puerto Rican origin was found dead after undergoing cosmetic surgery in the Dominican Republic last weekend.
Alexandra Medina, 33, a resident of the Yonkers, New York area, traveled north of Santo Domingo to undergo a tummy tuck.
According to the relatives, they told Univisión 41, Medina was in contact with a person who recruited her to undergo the procedure at the Dr. Ureña Arias Clinic from New York before traveling to undergo surgery. Until now, it is unknown if the clinic is authorized to do such procedures.
Alexandra's mother says that she contacted her daughter just before her surgery through the person who would have helped her, Wanda, who later disappeared.
He said this month, 'Mommy, I'm going to Santo Domingo, I'm going to give you the address.' He gave me all the information, the hospital address, but they did not do it at the hospital,”said Kanny Toro, Alexandra's mother.
However, what raised the first suspicions was the time they were preparing to operate. Who does operations after 8:30 pm? I have everything here”, says Toro.
According to Kanny Toro, her daughter wanted to change her appearance despite the advice of her relatives. “Years ago she was saving money to go to Colombia and undergo that process. The whole family said not to."
As Dominican Republic authorities reveal the autopsy results, Alexandra's family is devastated and looking for answers.
"Everything is gone, my soul is gone, as if they were sucking the soul from my body," says Toro.
