Just as we need to cleanse our homes to live in harmony and prevent disease, we also need to cleanse our bodies at least twice a year.
Pesticides, hormones, chemicals in detergents, cleaning materials and food additives, among others, are captured by our bodies and stored as fat to prevent them from circulating in our system. It is a defense mechanism to keep us alive. The problem is that once they are stored, the body itself doesn't let them go that easily.
But the body requires getting rid of toxins and harmful elements in the environment, especially if our goal is to lose weight. The best way to do this is through a 5-day detox diet, during which we feed the body with nutrients and plenty of fiber.
This "cleaning" boosts our metabolism, increases our immune system, improves skin, health in every way, and is the best starting point to eliminate those extra books.
Nutrition expert and celebrity trainer Ingrid Macher, who is also the author of the book To the Rescue of the New You, gave us these 10 tips for healthy detoxification:
1. We start the day on an empty stomach, drinking a small glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. This so simple regulates the PH of the body, activates it and prepares it for fat burning during the rest of the day.
2. Free yourself from coffee and any other caffeinated drinks. Remember that caffeine is a stimulant of the central nervous system. Go for some green apple juice, for example, or if you feel the need for a dose of caffeine in the morning, choose green tea, oolong, hibiscus or mate that contain it in less quantity, and thus avoid withdrawal symptoms.
3. Give your body a break from animal protein such as that provided by eggs, milk or meat, replacing it with vegetable protein. Peas, beans, almonds, peanuts, quinoa, among others are excellent options.
4. Make sure to include vegetables, especially green ones like spinach, lettuce, celery, cucumbers, among others. It also incorporates fruits, whole foods, good fats, and superfoods.
5. Increase the dose of pure water to hydrate yourself. The ideal for these days is to take about 3 liters a day. And the colder it is, the more effective it will be at helping you burn fat.
6. Forget chewing gum, sugar, and processed foods. If you are too dependent on sugar, choose to use a few drops of honey, although if you can completely forget about sugar, the result will be much better.
7. Rest. I always recommend sleeping at least 6 to 8 hours to help maintain a healthy weight, but this is essential when you are detoxifying. Try to sleep early during these days, since your body has few calories to spend.
8. Include super foods in your menu such as chia seeds, flaxseed and hemp seeds to help you manage anxiety and provide plant protein, fiber and fat of the good kind like omega 3 and 6. They also allow you to feel satisfied for longer periods.
9. Practice exercise, but in moderation, and make it gentle like hiking or yoga. Forget about the weights in the detoxification process, since your body does not have enough calories and your muscles could be wasted.
10. Take intermittent showers of hot and cold water for 30 seconds on your back. This helps open the pores, helping with the process of expelling toxins from the body.
The first few days you may feel small discomforts such as headaches, body aches and some lethargy. Remember that you are cleaning your body and taking away its vices.
If the discomfort is greater, consult your doctor. But if you follow the instructions, you will not stop feeding or hydrating yourself, I am sure that from the fifth day you will feel like new, in better spirits and prepared for a healthy and permanent change.
