I love the Haute Couture shows because they are an opportunity to dream of the most incredible evening dresses that we will undoubtedly see in the artists in the galas to come, and that will serve as inspiration for our own special occasions. The Paris Fall 2014 Haute Couture Fashion Week took place this week and with it a series of fashion shows that stood out for being inspired by past eras.

One of my favorites was Versace. I am not a person who gravitates towards the striking and sensual designs that have always characterized this brand but I admire from afar each of its collections for the ingenious way in which Donatella Versace builds her dresses, and how fabulous and powerful they look the women who wear them. For this collection, Versace was inspired by the 1950s and although there were rounded shoulders and an emphasis on the waist, the designer did it her way. The dresses were not really dresses but part dress and part pants. The fabrics wrapped the body of the models and were held by strategic clasps, while the shoulders were exposed in asymmetrical cuts. Strong, beautiful, sexy women … just as she looked Jennifer López that day.

Another parade that always fascinates me to see is that of Valentino for the art with which María Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli make each piece. This time, Italian designers were inspired by Roman robes to create the most avant-garde designs. They were long, flowing goddess costumes that highlighted the strategic use of accessories, such as the delicate, knee-length, thin strap gladiator sandals and the long belts tied at the waist. The beauty of the dresses lay in their simplicity and in the elegant way in which the fabric was draped over the body.

On the other hand, Armani's ability to create garments in classic designs that last a lifetime is admirable. His Armani Privé collection focused on three colors: black, white and above all red, and the well-known two-piece suits were seen that nobody knows how to do better than him but with a more jovial and feminine air. Jackets in A, sleeves with sweet ruffles, a wide variety of elegant shorts and textures that seemed to be skin when they were actually organza and mohair when they were actually nylon. Another special detail of the collection were the tulle arrangements that were placed on some models on the head and those that wrapped the torso of the dresses creating a feeling of mystery.
