Designer Jean Paul Gaultier: "I Am In Love With Mexican Culture"

Legendary designer Jean Paul Gaultier was in Mexico to choose the winning Mexico Diseña dress, a contest that selects the next great Mexican designer. In an interview with the Mexican magazine Who, the Frenchman expressed his charm with Mexican culture.

"To tell the truth, I am in love with Mexican culture, which I see as the strongest in Latin America," he said, captivated after visiting the Museum of Popular Art.

Of everything he saw in the museum, the skulls impressed him the most. Gaultier admitted that he feels a strong connection to the way Mexicans view death.

“It is an incredible vision, with a joy and humor that I really like. I am very impressed,”he told the magazine, speaking in Spanish.

The designer served as president of the Mexico Diseña jury, and answered, asking what advice he would give to young designers, that “you have to observe people, things that happen, use their own culture and look for other inspirations.

“The Mexican culture is great. There are so many things that can be done with it and adapt to the designer world, said Gaultier.
