Being a chef and a celebrity was not in the plans of Jesús Alberto Díaz when he came to the United States at age 17. "I worked in food distributors," recalls the 34-year-old Venezuelan. "I was a cook and then [I met] a chef and he [made] me an approach to start a business, and what I specialized in was sushi."
That is how the Ikura Sushi Lounge restaurant in Miami was born and through that establishment he managed to get to Despierta América (Univision), where he has a daily segment where he prepares different dishes. “The main challenge is the schedule. I'm in the program [from 6 am] and then I go to the restaurant,”says Díaz, who always looks for time to cook at home with his wife, the Colombian Juliana Ateortuba, also 34, and her daughter Anabela, almost 2. "What we share the most are breakfasts. We make it very homemade. We like [the] omelette, french toast, pancakes.
