Dream Factory, one of Televisa's most ambitious fiction projects that updates some of the most successful soap operas of the last decades in serial dramas made in 25-episode formats with the highest production values, still stands. After La usurpadora, Cuna de lobos and Rubí, whose premiere is pending for next year with Camila Sodi, José Ron and Rodrigo Guirao as the leading triangle, the renowned Mexican company is now enlisting three new versions of iconic melodramas for 2020.
“We have already finished recording Rubí in Spain and we are working on the next projects for 2020: we are writing The Privilege of Loving, we are writing The Rich also cry and we are working The Hex. These are the three that will continue to be produced next year,”revealed Patricio Wills, president of Televisa Studios, in a recent interview with ttvnews, a media specialized in the television industry.
The privilege of loving
Produced by Carla Estrada in 1998, this new version of the hit telenovela Cristal starred Adela Noriega and René Strickler.
The story, which will again feature executive production by Estrada, will now revolve around Mariana, a young woman who grows up in luxury in the Guadalupe Valley until, after her father's death, her stepmother banishes her.
Mariana crosses the border in La Bestia and manages to be welcomed by a priest who supports migrants and helps her settle with a family in eastern Los Angeles.
There he meets the womanizer Luis Alberto, but love transforms him. They have a son and someone kidnaps him, making Mariana dedicate her life to supporting migrant children.
After several years, her stepmother returns to take revenge on Mariana by manipulating her lost son so that he breaks into her home and kills her.
The hex
The late Ernesto Alonso produced and starred in this hit telenovela of murder, seduction, and possession in which the occult plays a leading role.
The new version of The Curse will revolve around Beatriz, a respectable widow who, since the death of her husband, has dedicated herself to raising her children. Enrique, a powerful billionaire and leader of a secret satanic sect, has Beatriz in her sights as her next victim.
The hex.
But after pouring out attentions and proposing to her, he begins to feel a genuine affection for her and hesitates to carry out his evil plan or to reveal his tormented past and seek redemption.
Rich people cry too
It is, without a doubt, one of the great classics of Mexican soap operas. Starring Veronica Castro and Rogelio Guerra and produced by the late Valentine Pimstein in 1979, the melodrama tells the love story between a poor girl and a wealthy young man.
Rich people cry too.
Maria la del barrio (1995) with Thalía or Marina (2006) headed by Sandra Echeverría are some of the many versions that have already been made of the soap opera.
