Last night, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump went head-to-head in the first of three planned presidential debates. The first female nominee of a major party brought up the headline-grabbing episode where Trump shamed the 1996 Miss Universe titleholder for gaining weight.
“One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest. He loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them,”Clinton said. And he called this woman 'Miss Piggy.' Then I called him 'Miss Housekeeping,' because he was Latina.”
The democratic candidate continued: “Donald, she has a name. Her name is Alicia Machado.”
Venezuelan-born Machado, now a successful actress and businesswoman, recently became a US citizen and has shared on her social media accounts her plans to vote against the man who once publicly humiliated her. With projects in the works and eager to voice her opinion in this election, the actress speaks to Chica about who she is 20 years after being crowned Miss Universe and why we she believes the republican candidate isn't the “right person” to be president.
