Athletes Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali, and Kristi Castlin made Olympic history in Rio when they became the first American women to win each medal in a single event. All three women finished 1-2-3 in the 100-meter hurdles, which also has never happened in that particular track and field event.
Rollins reached the line first in 12.48 seconds. Ali came behind her at 12.59 seconds. Castlin finished at 12.61 seconds with Cindy Ofili of Great Britain coming in fourth.
"I knew that I got the gold," Rollins said. "But I just wanted to make sure that my other teammates medaled as well."
Castlin dedicated her medal to an ongoing concern in the United States. "I would like to dedicate this medal to victims of gun violence," she said. "Women hurdlers are so strong in the US, and we have overcome controversy. We are three strong hurdlers.”
