According to a recent study from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than half a million women between the ages of 19 -34 have had Botox procedures. With popular celebrities like the Kardashian family morphing their look, young women are seeking out procedures more than ever before.

One plastic surgeon, Dr. Norman Rowe, has seen the rise personally in his NYC-based office and is now answering our questions on the rising trend.

What is the youngest age you've received from someone asking for Botox?

"I have a lot of girls in their early twenties coming in looking for Botox but 22 years old is the youngest that has come into my office."

What are the most requested areas of Botox in millennials?

“Girls are starting to notice wrinkles in their forehead, the area between the eyes (glabella), at a younger age. Most of them are coming in for this procedure to maintain a smoother eye and forehead area.”

Why do you think there is such a high number of millennials getting Botox? Why are they deciding to start so young?

“I think Millennial's realize that prevention is the best way to treat wrinkles. Don't wait until you get wrinkles, using Botox at an earlier age will prevent ever getting wrinkles.”

Have you turned any clients down?

“Yes, I've turned clients down only if after a thorough history and physical there is any reason that they cannot get Botox, or if Botox will not result in the effect that they desire. For example, if their body will not react right to the Botox or if they are looking for lip enhancement I would recommend another treatment, like a filler, for better results.”

Is there even an age limit on when you can or cannot receive a procedure?

"I don't inject patients younger than 21 years and there is no upper age limit."

Is there anything millennials should know before they go in for the procedure?

“Make sure that they are going to a qualified plastic surgeon, not the local spa that offer bargain basement prices. Remember, it's your face and you usually get what you pay for.”
