looks like the story of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is set to be solidified on film thanks to HBO, who are turning 2016's election into a mini-series.
Of course, given that it wasn't even six months ago, most of us can remember the shocking 2016 election clearly where Donald Trump was elected President over Hillary Clinton. While most of us are trying to figure out what that means for the next four years, it seems that people in Hollywood are determined to remind us. In fact, it was recently announced by American Horror Story showrunner Ryan Murphy that one of the show's upcoming seasons would be based on the election, with the prolific TV producer having to defend his decision to base the season off such recent history.
Well, now HBO wants a piece of the action as they've announced a mini-series about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump's battle for the presidency
In a press release, HBO announced that the mini-series would be based off the upcoming third installation of Mark Halperin and John Heilemann's ongoing literary series, Game Change, which follows the campaigns of presidential candidates.
The upcoming mini-series, whch is being executive produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman and directed and executive produced by Jay Roach, follows HBO's previous adaptation of Mark Halperin and John Heilemann's book in 2012, also titled Game Change, which saw Julianne Moore take on the role of Sarah Palin, and also starred Woody Harrelson and Ed Harris. The series won five Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, three Golden Globes, including Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television, and a Peabody Award.
"We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, whose work on their bestselling book Game Change set the bar for political reporting and storytelling inside a presidential campaign," said Len Amato, president of HBO Films. "Reuniting Game Change director and executive producer Jay Roach and Playtone producers Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman with Mark and John for a project based on their upcoming book promises to vividly capture the most unique and impactful event in modern American politics."
It's unknown whether Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will take centerstage during HBO's new project, but if the their last Game Change series is anything to go by we're betting it'll be pretty entertaining.
