A teacher could be deported after being accused of sexually abusing a minor student. Rumah Byrapaka, 24, was arrested in Georgia for the alleged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old student. The Hephzibah Middle School teacher sent nude photos of her and erotic messages to the minor, according to authorities. She is also accused of kissing and "indecent touching" of the student. A spokeswoman for the Richmond County School District said the school would collaborate with police to clarify what happened.
Byrapaka is not a US citizen and could be deported to India if found guilty. The student says he is in love with the teacher and ran away from home to be with her, according to Richmond County prosecutors. Byrapaka was teaching science and social studies classes, and has been suspended from school after her arrest, WRDW reported.
A judge has ordered that the woman should not have contact with any person under the age of 18, including her alleged victim. She has also had to turn in her passport, according to reports. The teacher remains in the Richmond County Jail on $ 27,700 bail, according to official documents. The case remains under investigation.
