Tessa Majors, a student at Barnard College, died after being stabbed multiple times in Morningside Park in New York. The 18-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. According to authorities, the crime occurred around 5:35 pm on Wednesday when a group of young people approached Majors with the intention of stealing it. The suspects asked her to hand over some valuable belongings to her and then stabbed her and escaped, as reported by ABC 7.

Police said the young woman injured walked to the exit of the park and collapsed in front of a security guard's hut who asked for help seeing her bloody. According to the New York Daily News, police arrested a 16-year-old boy - as one of the suspects in the crime - in apartments near the park.

The New York Post reports that another 13-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the crime. Authorities revealed to the newspaper that the 13-year-old boy confessed that he and two of his middle school classmates went to the park with the idea of stealing. Seeing the 18-year-old student, they approached her stealthily and stole her wallet before stabbing her, according to the reported confession. The case remains under investigation.
