An Ohio mother confessed to killing her three children. The 27-year-old woman was saved from the death penalty after confessing to the crime on Tuesday, but was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison. Brittany Pilkington pleaded guilty to manslaughter and murder for suffocating her children on three different occasions. Their 3-month-old son Noah was found dead in August 2015 in the couple's apartment in Bellefontaine, The Springfield News Sun reported. A few months earlier, in April 2015, her 4-year-old son Gavin was killed in the same way, and her newborn son Niall also died of suffocation in July 2014.

The woman confessed to investigators that she had suffocated her children because she was jealous of the attention her husband Joseph Pilkington, the father of the children, was giving to the children. In court, prosecutors argued that the mother was also angry that her husband was not paying the same attention to his daughter Hailey as the boys. The girl suffered no physical harm and is in the custody of a child protection agency.

Logan County District Attorney Eric Stewart said justice had finally been served and the community “protected” from the threat posed by Brittany. Kort Gatterdam, one of the young mother's attorneys revealed that her client had suffered sexual and physical abuse for years and was "irreparably damaged." He also claimed that Brittany had suffered lead poisoning during her childhood and that this had caused "mental damage".

The New York Post reports that her husband, Joseph Pilkington, was charged with sexual assault for making Brittany pregnant when she was 17 and still a minor. Joseph Pilkington was reportedly formerly Brittany's stepfather, having been her mother's boyfriend before he married Brittany. Brittany's lawyer read a message written by the mother, where she assured that “she loved her children, missed them and regretted their deaths every day of her life.”
