Police found human remains Tuesday in a forested area of Alabama while searching for Taylor Rose Williams, a 5-year-old girl who disappeared from Florida, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reported. It is not yet confirmed if the remains belong to the minor. Authorities in Florida are investigating the girl's mother, whom they consider "a person of interest" in the child's disappearance. According to police, Taylor's mother, Brianna Williams - a US Navy officer - stopped collaborating with investigators after reporting the missing girl on the morning of November 6.

"To this day, Taylor's mother, Brianna Williams, 27, is not cooperating with this investigation," said Mike Williams, the Jacksonville sheriff at a news conference Monday. "She hasn't spoken to us since Wednesday and was the last person to see Taylor." Taylor's search and investigation into the girl's disappearance expanded to Alabama, where her mother grew up.

During the press conference, Sheriff Mike Williams said the girl's mother, who works at the Jacksonville Naval Air Station, has not been arrested. The case remains under investigation.

The mother assured police that the girl had disappeared from her home on the morning of November 6. Brianna said she last saw her daughter the night before and that when she woke up the next day, Taylor was not in her room and the door to the house did not have a lock on it. Police issued an Amber alert on Wednesday morning.
