Peter Chadwick, a 55-year-old billionaire born in the United Kingdom and a former California resident, has been captured in Mexico after four years of fleeing the law by being identified as the main suspect in the murder of his wife.

The father of three children was detained at an unspecified point in the neighboring country and flown to Los Angeles on Monday morning, multiple sources, including the Los Angeles Times and CBS-LA, confirm.

Prosecutors suspect the man strangled Quee Choo, his wife of 21 years, in his Newport Beach mansion on October 10, 2012 after a financial dispute and the possibility of a divorce. At that time, the man called the police, reporting that a worker had murdered his wife and forced him to take her body to the border.

The 46-year-old woman's body was later located in a garbage dump in a rural San Diego county area, according to sheriff's reports. The authorities began to suspect the businessman's version because he had dried blood on his hands and scratches on his neck.

The following day Chadwick was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, to which the man responded by pleading not guilty. The subject was released on bail of $ 1.5 million under the condition of waiting for his court date at his father's house in Santa Monica.

In January 2015, Chadwick disappeared without a trace just before appearing before the judge in Orange County Superior Court. A subsequent investigation by the Sheriff's Office determined that the subject had withdrawn millions from his bank accounts and had practically vanished. The man had also spent time researching how to change his identity and live without electricity or running water.

Que Choo's murder and subsequent escape from her husband captivated the public when they were portrayed on the Countdown to Capture podcast.

Chadwick is charged with a felony for murder. If found guilty, he faces 25 years behind bars to life in prison.
