Woman And 17-year-old Son Arrested For Murder Of Minor In Brooklyn

A Hispanic woman and her son were arrested in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Rohan Burke, which occurred Monday in a corner of Brooklyn, NY, in broad daylight.

Barbara Galloza, 38, has been in custody of the authorities since Wednesday on accusations of having hidden the weapon allegedly used by her son David López, 17, to stab the victim in the chest at the eastern intersection of 17th Street and M Avenue in the Flatlands neighborhood. The attack occurred at 4:00 pm a few miles from where the family resides.

Burke was rushed to the Maimonides hospital where he died. The young man was studying at Lafayette High School in Brooklyn.

Wilfredo Cotto, assistant district attorney, said Wednesday in the Brooklyn Criminal Court that the woman was close to her son when he allegedly stabbed the victim. "The woman refused to admit that she took the knife and refused to reveal the location of the knife," said Cotto, who noted that so far they have not found the weapon. According to authorities, the woman was caught on video seizing the knife.

His lawyers reject the prosecution's version.
