Pregnant Woman Who Disappeared In Chicago Murdered

Chicago police confirmed Wednesday the discovery of the remains of Marlen Ochoa, a 19-year-old young Hispanic mother who was pregnant and who disappeared without trace in April. Four people were detained before the body was found to be abandoned in a trash can at the back of a house located in the Southside neighborhood. Experts determined that the woman had the baby ripped from her belly shortly after she died strangled.

The victim was last seen on April 23 when he left the school where he was studying for high school, the Latino Youth High School. The teenager would go to pick up her oldest son at Teddy Bear Day Care, located at 51st Street and Pulaski Avenue, but never arrived.

According to her husband, Yovany Lopez, Ochoa texted her around 3:00 pm to tell her that she was too tired to drive, and no more was heard from her from there, CBS-2 Chicago confirms.

Her disappearance unleashed a tireless search to find the woman who was last seen in the La Villita neighborhood. "She can't just disappear like this," her mother, Raquel Uriostegui, told reporters. The family explained that Ochoa had contacted an alleged group of mothers on Facebook and that there she asked for donations of clothing for the baby she was expecting. One of those people answered him and told him to wait “two weeks” and that he would soon give him clothes that he no longer needed.

Said cited Ochoa at the intersection of West 79th Street and South Pulaski Road, a corner located just a few blocks from where the body was found, according to The Washington Post.

Neighbors reported that they had seen a woman come out of the house wearing a bloody shirt and carrying a newborn and screaming, "I just had a baby and she is not breathing."

For his part, a spokesman for the fire department confirmed that on April 23 a call was received asking for an ambulance to transport a baby from the address in question and that it was received at around 6:10 pm local time, according to CBS-2 reports.

The baby was taken to a hospital in critical condition and to date remains in "serious" condition, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Chicago Police.

This Wednesday night the victim's husband spoke to reporters outside the local coroner's office and tearfully exclaimed, “Why did these bad people do this? she did nothing to them. She was a good person.
