The modeling world in Brazil is once again covered in mourning with the death of Caroline Bittencourt. The statuesque 37-year-old beauty drowned after jumping into the sea to try to rescue her puppies that had been thrown off deck by strong winds.

The tragedy happened this Sunday when Bittencourt and her husband, Jorge Sestini, were traveling aboard a catamaran-type boat in the waters near the Ilhabela archipelago, located on the Sao Paulo coast. The ship was hit by strong waves and winds of 62 miles per hour.

When Bittencourt jumped off the boat, her husband jumped into the sea to try to help her, but they were separated by the strong storm. Sestini was rescued three hours later by a commercial vessel. The body of the model was found on the beach of Cigarras around 4:30 pm on Monday.

"She tried to save her two puppies that had fallen into the water due to the wind," said physical trainer Can Saad to explain what happened, according to Daily Mail reports.

"The wind was very strong, the sea was choppy," Wagner Goulart de Souza, delegate of the harbor master, told the Globo chain about what had happened.

For his part, Beto Tenório, the fisherman who found Sestini in the murky waters of the area, explained how the rescue occurred. “I heard some screams 'help! Help!' "The man related to the aforementioned television channel. "You couldn't see anything, [it was] dark."

Andréia Boneti, agent of the deceased model, assured that her husband did what he could to save her, but it was impossible. "Jorge tried to rescue her. He saw how Carol was drowning and couldn't save her. It was a terrible time for him. He's in shock."

The storm that caused the death of the model claimed the lives of two other people in the region, where there were heavy rains and tree collapses.

According to the Globo chain, there were at least 300 felled trees, one of which buried a woman. The storm surges and strong winds also left a family traveling with a 9-month-old baby adrift.

This tragedy is in addition to the shocking death of the model Tales Soares - artistically known as Tales Cotta - who died after collapsing on the catwalk while parading in a Sao Paulo Fashion Week show. According to sources, the model had expressed that he felt unwell before the show and died in a local hospital.
