Baby Was Bitten In An Arizona Daycare

The parents of a 15-month-old girl are outraged by the bite attack her daughter was allegedly victim of at a Maricopa, Arizona, daycare center.

Rocío Enríquez and her husband, Rylee Umstead, assure that last Thursday their daughter Mila received at least 8 bites while she was with four other children and under the supervision of a caregiver at the Sunrise Preschools children's center.

According to the girl's mother, when they went to pick up the baby from school, the staff informed them that Mila had been bitten "a couple of times."

Upon arriving home, the mother inspected her little body and found multiple marks along her daughter's back.

"How can this happen? I came home and inspected it, and I definitely saw the red marks and thought 'what happened to my girl' "?, The woman told AZFamily.com. "It seems that everything happened in 30 seconds," continued the woman, who now demands that the school show her the security video of that day.

Enriquez complained to the school about what had happened and they explained that when her daughter was attacked, there were four children in the classroom with a single teacher who was changing a baby's diaper.

The teacher was fired and the boy who bit the minor was dropped. "She had to have screamed many times," said Enriquez. "Why does a child have to pay the consequences when she should be a teacher [who is punished]?" Asked Enriquez about the measures taken by the institution.

For her part, Dana Vela, president of Sunrise Preschools, issued a statement saying: “On Thursday, April 25, a girl was bitten multiple times by another minor in a very short period of time. The incident was heartbreaking and unacceptable, and we are working diligently to prevent this from happening again. We are reviewing our policies and procedures, and will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that this type of extraordinary incident does not recur. The safety of the children in our care [is] the number one priority, "he concluded.

Sunrise Preschools operates about 30 children's centers in the state of Arizona.
