An Arizona immigrant youth shelter has witnessed one of the cruelest events that can happen: sexual abuse of children. Levian D. Pachecho, former worker of the place and carrier of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.
The criminal was accused of sexually abusing seven adolescents who were being held there, as reported by the United States Attorney's Office. The former employee had previously been tried on seven other charges of abusive sexual contact and three with children.
Although the maximum legal penalty for sexual abuse is 15 years, the fact that it endangered the lives of victims of the HIV virus increased its sentence considerably.
The events date back to 2016 and 2017 when I worked at the Kokopelli Southwest Key Facility in Mesa, Arizona. Among the crimes are that of having oral sex with two of the adolescents and having forced one of them to have sex with him.
Other teens, ages 15 to 17, said he had fondled them under clothing and behaved inappropriately. The case is so serious that the investigation went up to the federal level and has been carried out by the United States District Court.
