The popular Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team is back in the thick of the controversy and not precisely because of its accomplishments on the court, but because of one of its former players who is grabbing the headlines. Former pitcher John Wetteland was arrested for sexually abusing a 4-year-old minor in Texas.
According to reports, the former 52-year-old baseball player was detained by the Bartonville, Texas police last Monday, following an investigation initiated by the agency, after receiving a report from the Department of Family and Protective Services at minor, who pointed to Wetteland as responsible for abusing a minor.
According to a statement filed in court, the apparent abuse began in 2004 and the former Dodgers member is accused of forcing a minor to perform sexual acts on him, PEOPLE reported.
According to the statements, the abuse occurred more than once between 2004 and 2006 at the home of the baseball player, who was also part of the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers. If found guilty, Wetteland could spend the rest of his life in prison or a minimum of 25 years behind bars, the USA Today newspaper reported.
At the moment, the former player, who was inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame in 2005, has not spoken about it and was released on bail of $ 25,000.
