Hania Aguilar's father will not be able to travel to the United States to attend his daughter's funeral. Noé Aguilar, the father of the 13-year-old student who was kidnapped and murdered in Lumberton, was denied a visa to travel from Guatemala to North Carolina. Lawyer Naimeh Salem told CNN in Spanish that Hania's father applied for an emergency visa at the US embassy in Guatemala and was denied it. The lawyer alleges that her visa was denied because it represented an alleged risk of not returning to her native country and remaining on US soil.

The lawyer assures that her client does not have a criminal record and that several officials from both countries have intervened for the decision to be reviewed, asking for the help of Roy Cooper, the governor of North Carolina. More than 55,000 signatures have been collected on the Change.org page supporting the family in their request that Noé Aguilar be able to travel to say goodbye to her daughter.

The lifeless body of Aguilar, a young Hispanic student, was found inside a water well, police revealed. The FBI confirmed through its Twitter account that the young woman who disappeared on November 5 was found dead. Hania's story moved the community because the young woman was kidnapped outside her home in Rosewood Mobile Park. The victim's sister told a local WRAL station that "suddenly, the man came out of nowhere and took her away."

Authorities and the FBI reported that his hijacker was driving a Ford Expedition van with a NWS 984 license plate from that state. Michael Ray McLellan, 34, was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, rape and murder, the FBI reported, and will have to go to trial.

One of the girl's aunts did receive a visa to travel to the United States to give Hania one last goodbye. Her mass will be held this Friday and the young woman will be veiled on Saturday in Lumberton. Rest in peace.
