Venezuelan Carla Stefaniak traveled to Costa Rica to celebrate her birthday but disappeared a day before her return to the United States. The 36-year-old woman lived in Miami and is a US citizen. According to the Costa Rican newspaper La Nación, the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), found the body of a woman near the place where Stefaniak stayed the night of her disappearance.
The case is still ongoing and authorities have not yet reported whether the body is that of Stefaniak. The young woman's family has not been notified yet and they still hope to find her alive.
The newspaper reports that the body was found by authorities when tracking dogs on Calle Hoja Blanca, near the Hotel Le-Más. Last week, Stefaniak traveled with his sister-in-law to Costa Rica. Her sister-in-law returned to the United States, but the young Venezuelan decided to go to an Airbnb to spend her last night in Costa Rica.
The young woman was due to fly back to Miami on November 28, but the Uber driver who was to take her to the airport at 9 am reported that Carla never made it to the car. A notice released with her photos asking for help finding her says: “The last time we heard from her was on November 27 at around 8 pm when she said it was raining heavily and the power went out. Airbnb Villa Buena Vista in San Antonio de Escazú was staying in Costa Rica.”
The alarming case has shocked the world and is still under investigation.
