The video of a woman dragging a child by the arm to leave him alone on the doorway of a house went viral. Now authorities reveal the story behind the alarming case.

The black and white recording shows how a woman comes running with the child by the hand and her backpack in the other, quickly rings the doorbell of the house and runs away, leaving the child alone. The woman comes dressed in a jumpsuit, striking earrings and a gold wallet, made-up and with hair arranged with extensions, as if she were going out for a night out. When he rings the doorbell, he doesn't even wait for the door to open and he runs away, getting into a car. The little boy looks at her in bewilderment and stands at the door.

ABC News shared the video, posted by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Spring, Texas, on their Instagram account. The boy was placed in the care of Child Protective Services until her parents were found. Authorities were looking for the woman who abandoned him.

According to the authorities, the woman in the video is a friend of the child's mother who had been in charge of taking care of him. The father of the two-year-old baby lives next to the house where the woman left him alone. Willie Simmons could not believe that his son Royal Simmons had been left on his neighbor's door alone. "What would have happened if my neighbor was not home?" The father told ABC 13. "If my neighbor had not been there, my son would have been wandering alone on the street."

The father added to ABC 13 that he believes that the woman who left him on the portal should be punished for his actions: "That was very irresponsible."

According to Officer Scott Spencer of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the father received a text message from the boy's mother saying that his friend would leave him at home because she was in the hospital. When ABC 13 spoke to the boy's mother, she alleged, "It was all a misunderstanding." The woman who left the child on the portal is not facing charges yet, but could be accused of abandonment of a minor, KPRC-TV reported.
