A 50-year-old woman who was confined to a wheelchair was arrested in Clark County, Washington after allegedly beating her 75-year-old mother to death and then quietly digging her grave before calling authorities.
According to a statement released by the county sheriff's office, Asenka Miller Wilber was arrested last Thursday at her home at 14308 NE 80th street while responding to a call from the medical examiner regarding a death.
"A 75-year-old woman was reported to have died at the hands of her daughter who also lived with her at home," reads the police press release. "Upon arriving at the home, it was evident that the deceased had suffered injuries to the face, head and possibly a wrist," he explained, affirming that the coroner inspected the wounds of the woman who in life responded to the name of Carole Hardin.
When questioned by the Wilber County Detective Unit, she explained that her mother had physically abused her for practically her entire life, citing this as a probable cause of the crime.
The woman explained that there was an argument between her and her mother that started in her bedroom and that she then hit her on the head until she stopped moving, as revealed in police documents. “Instead of asking for help or calling 911 [Wilber] said she was confused and started digging a grave for her mother in the front yard. She continued digging for a full day until she felt physically tired, "she explained.
The suspect took photos of her mother's body and later proceeded to go to the neighbors to call 911. According to The Oregonian newspaper in May 2017, Hardin requested a restraining order against her daughter, which remained in force for one year. The woman resumed her request last June but her request was canceled as neither she nor her daughter appeared in court.
Wearing an orange suit, the suspect appeared before the county Superior Court on Monday and was presented as the main suspect in second-degree murder of domestic violence. "The court does not want me alive and neither do I want to," said the defendant requesting the death penalty. Wilber now detained on a $ 500,000 bond.
