New York Police are investigating the death of a baby boy who was pulled up while floating in the water on New York's East River near South Street Seaport.
The 8-month-old boy was unconscious and unresponsive, he was found under the Brooklyn bridge wearing only diapers.
Tourists from Oklahoma made the disturbing discovery and called police around 4 p.m. Sunday.
According to local media reports, one of the tourists jumped into the water and took the baby to the shore where he tried to save him, but it was too late. Minutes later, the boy was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Several witnesses say the baby did not appear to have fallen from the shore, NBC reports.
There was no trace of the child's parents. However, near the boy was found a backpack that was also taken as evidence.
No signs of trauma or blows were found in the baby. The coroner is working to determine the cause of death of the infant.
New York Police wrote via Twitter that they continued to search for additional victims in and around the water, a process that lasted until late at night on Sunday..
If anyone has information about the baby or the whereabouts of their parents, they are asked to call the New York Precinct 1 Detectives at 1-800-577-TIPS.
