A Georgia state mother starved her 2-year-old daughter, whom she was leaving at night to go to work at a strip club, according to authorities.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said in a statement that it was the mother, Devin Moon, who called authorities on Tuesday after finding her daughter Reygan unconscious and cold-bodied.

The little girl, who was close to three years old, was already dead when the emergency services arrived, and there was nothing they could do to revive her.

According to the police account, the 29-year-old mother told investigators who took up the case that the little girl had been born with "medical problems" that prevented her from gaining weight. At the time of her death, Reygan was just 14 pounds, when a girl her age is supposed to be between 26 and 38 pounds.

In their statement, the police highlight that the autopsy did not reveal that the minor suffered from any disease and indicated that the cause of death was malnutrition.

According to local media, in subsequent conversations with the mother, she confessed to them that she regularly left the minor alone to go to work at night in a strip club, so the little girl was abandoned for 10 to 12 hours.

The family of the accused had already reported the situation to the state social services, so Moon stopped talking to them and they had not seen the girl for a year, authorities said. After her arrest, the young woman was charged with cruelty towards a minor in the first degree and murder.
