A family in the town of Meeker, Oklahoma, is accused of wanting to starve a 15-year-old boy who only weighed 80 pounds and who apparently survived the abuse of his relatives by eating twigs, herbs and grass from a barn.

The boy was located on July 12 by Lincoln County authorities after a checkup was carried out by social workers who located the boy inside the farm.

"[The boy] weighed less than 80 pounds and was diagnosed with malnutrition," said an affidavit obtained by People. According to the same document, if it had not been discovered "the child would have died within a period of approximately one week."

Following the discovery came the arrest of Jimmy L. Jones, the boy's father; Amy A. Jones, her stepmother; and Jonathan Luke Plank and Tyler Joe Adkins, the victim's half-brothers.

For his part, Adam Panter, Lincoln District Attorney, told The Kansas City Star newspaper that the boy survived his torture by eating "sticks, twigs, leaves and grass." According to the affidavit, the boy also had various wounds and blows, one of the most serious located on his head and that apparently was "healed" by his father with 'crazy glue' type glue.

Authorities discovered that while the boy was starving and mistreated in the barn, the rest of the family seemed "well fed" and lived comfortably inside their home.

Now the four subjects are incarcerated and facing potentially serious charges that will be examined at their next court date, to be held in two weeks.

The father is charged with abuse of injury and one count of neglect of a minor and his bond has been set at $ 125,000. For her part, the 46-year-old stepmother faces one charge of abuse and one of neglect and has bail of $ 75,000, while her children, 20 and 24 years old, respectively, face charges of negligence of a minor - each one - and his bond was set at $ 25,000 and $ 100,000, respectively.
