A Florida woman who faces charges for the death of her 13-month-old baby girl, who apparently died of hunger, said that despite the fact that the little girl only weighed 7 pounds, she never noticed the extreme thinness of the little girl.
According to a report shared by the online site of People magazine, the unusual statements were made by Kristen Meyer-Aleman during the interrogations to which she was subjected after the death of her daughter.
Meyer-Aleman, who also has nine other children, told detectives in charge of the investigation that she had noticed that her daughter "was young" but never intentionally attempted to starve her. The girl died weighing 2 pounds less than when she was born.
According to legal documents of the sad case, it is indicated that little Tayla died of exhaustion caused by the negligence of her parents. The baby girl had signs of influenza, E. coli and pneumonia, among other serious conditions.
The investigation also found that the couple's home found a large pile of unwashed, urine-smelling clothing, multiple marks of feces on the mat, plus a dog locked in a cage overcrowded with its own feces, which is why they also face animal abuse charges.
Following Tayla's death in April 2016, the woman and her husband, Alejandro Aleman, were charged with aggravated child abuse and first-degree murder. If found guilty of the charges they face, the couple could face capital punishment.
