An Illinois mother has been sentenced to 35 years for beating her 4-year-old son to death.

Crystal Valdez, 35, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of her son Christopher in September 2017, her body was discovered by her uncles on November 25, 2011, the day after Action Day. Thanks and the one that was his fourth birthday.

Valdez was sentenced on Wednesday to 35 years in prison in a nearly six-hour hearing during which her brother called her "monster."

"You don't deserve the title of mother," he told his sister Joseph Valdez, who found the boy's body along with his wife. "You are a monster".

According to the Chicago Tribune newspaper, at one point, Valdez wiped away his tears with a tissue as his lawyers read letters from his other three children about how much they loved and missed little Christopher.

Katrine Valdez, Joseph's wife testified last year that she and her husband went to see their nephew and found the boy's body covered in bruises and wrapped in a blanket.

While no evidence was presented about Crystal Valdez's specific role in Christopher's fatal beating, witnesses said she had admitted months before his death by hitting the boy.

Court records showed Valdez was diagnosed with an intellectual disability and had a low IQ that is said to be in her 50s.

Although no physical evidence was presented that directly implicated the woman in the fatal beating, witnesses claimed that she had confessed before the death that she beat the boy.

Likewise, tapes of the call made by family members to 911 were reviewed after the discovery of the unconscious boy in which Valdéz was heard shouting: “I killed him! My Christopher!”
