The father of a 2-year-old boy from Mount Vernon, New York was arrested and charged with the murder of his son, authorities announced.

The boy's mother found him unconscious when he returned to his mother's home on Monday night. The boy was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Lloyd Scott was charged and charged with second degree murder for the death of his son.

"No child deserves to die that way," added Harris. "The tragic death of any human being is difficult enough to deal with. But the death of a child, a young child, is one of the most difficult calls for a police officer to answer and investigate. Most of us are parents, And this comes home. Our prayers go to this little boy's family, friends, and loved ones."

Scott, 34, has no criminal record, authorities said.

"This is another tragic situation that hurts beyond description," said Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas. "This child was taken from us at the hands of someone they trusted."

Thomas said the boy's name would not be revealed.

"My heart aches for this family and for the pain they are going through," said Thomas.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Bags marked "evidence" were held at 531 East Lincoln Avenue and loaded into an SUV around 8 am, approximately 12 hours after the terrible discovery inside an apartment.

Linda Duncan, a neighbor of the infant's mother, told CBS2 that she lives in an apartment that shares a wall with the apartment where the tragedy occurred. "You could hear the baby running, playing, crying in the morning, what I never heard was the baby or something like that."
