The fight between two brothers who quarreled over control of a video game ended in tragedy when the youngest, 9, ended the life of the oldest, 13, with a shot to the head.

Local media in Monroe County, Mississippi, reported on the terrible event that occurred this Sunday at the family's home, whose identity has not been released.

According to the police, the girl did not want to hand over control of the game to the boy. Then, enraged, he seized a weapon and shot the teenager in the back of the head. The bullet pierced his brain and although the young woman was immediately transferred to the Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, she died.

Authorities say it is still unknown how the boy had access to the weapon or how he knew how to use it.

“He is only 9 [years old]. I 'm assuming you've seen this in video games or on television,”Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told WLOV-TV. "I don't know if he knew exactly what would happen. I cannot answer that. I don't know, it's a tragedy."

For now, the required investigations are being carried out, but it was ensured that the identity of the family will not be revealed, nor will any possible charges that the child may face be informed at this time.

"This is all new territory for us, we have never dealt with a 9-year-old boy shooting another child," the sheriff said. “We do not yet know what type of charges, if any, can be brought against him. We want to make sure first that we are doing everything correctly. So I don't want to rush into saying anything because it's about minors involved.” The sheriff also invited public opinion to send his prayers to the family.
