A young Venezuelan boy who had recently become a U. S. citizen is among the victims who were killed in the shooting at a college in Parkland, South Florida.

Joaquín Oliver, 17, whom his friends called “Guac”, was a sports lover, very attached to his family and frequently shared posts on his social networks to show his support and nostalgia for the land that saw him born.

According to the Miami Herald newspaper, the young man resided for 14 years in the United States and in January 2017 he had acquired citizenship along with his family.

Hours before being confirmed as one of the victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas, his sister had requested by networks to help locate him. "My brother was at school during the shooting, we have not heard from him since," said Victoria Ghersi through a Facebook post.

Finally, and after hours of anguish - as the victim's girlfriend, Victoria González, explained to the aforementioned publication - elements of the FBI informed them of her death.

The sister of the deceased posted a photo on Facebook this Friday remembering Oliver, who was immediately flooded with condolences

“Thanks for all the memories, I will see you soon. Rest in peace one of the most favorite boys I've ever met. Someone who always wanted to be the best for everyone,”exclaimed Rayn McGowan, another friend of Oliver's on Instagram.

Among the wounded from the shooting is also another Venezuelan, Daniela Menescal Guariguata, 17 years old. According to various sources, the young woman was injured by shrapnel from the ammunition that hit her during the shooting that occurred this Wednesday afternoon, on Valentine's Day.

Nikolas Cruz, a former student who had been expelled from the center, has been charged with 17 counts of murder as the author of the massacre.
