A Mexican deputy, Benjamín Medrano Quezada, warned that the children of single mothers have a greater potential to become criminals because the absence of their mother in the home causes them to have feelings of resentment against society.

"There are those who potentially become criminals because they come from a single mother who has to work all day," Medrano told the local television program in Zacatecas, Mexico, Meganoticias. “They are alone all day and they leave their house to complain to society about why they are alone; because they do not have what many have and they do it as revenge on society”.

According to the politician of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), young people start by breaking a glass, then stealing "because they want to have a cell phone." This argument was because greater penalties are being proposed for minors who commit crimes in the state they represent.

“We would have to analyze it, not only impose a greater sanction on minors, for imposing them; because if not, then we would have a prison full of minors, he added.

And while he wanted to soften the comment by ensuring that more severe penalties for young offenders is a complex issue that involves promoting access to work, health and education, his comments had already left their mark on the audience and, therefore, the subject of severe criticism.

So far, the PRI has not spoken on this matter. Nor has any mention been made of any kind of warning against Benjamin Medrano Quezada, who on other occasions has made controversial comments against his fellow legislators.
