Learn About The Campaign That Wants To Reunite Mothers Separated From Their Children At The Border

Mother's Day was celebrated around the world on Sunday. Social networks witnessed the number of messages that were shared to celebrate the loved one.

But while many share their celebration on the Internet, others want to use the same medium to shed light on the rights of immigrants and raise awareness of the family separation that mothers have suffered due to the immigration policies of President Donald Trump.

Such is the case of the Phenomenal Mother campaign, which in collaboration with the non-profit organization Families Belong Together wants to support mothers who have not yet reunited with their children after the “zero tolerance” policy was put into effect.”From the Trump administration.

How was Families Belong Together born?

Familia Unidas was born after organizing the protests last year to protest the "zero tolerance" policy and the separation of families at the border. We formed the committee and from that association we formed a collation of more than 250 organizations.

What is the Phenomenal Mother campaign about?

This campaign was created with Phenomenal Woman to bring into focus the nightmare that mothers on the border are going through this Mother's Day and possibly affect a policy change. Phenomenal Mother aims to focus on mothers who have sacrificed everything by taking their children through long and dangerous days in search of a better future.

“I got in touch with Meena Harris who is a brilliant marketing expert and her way of marketing with a T-shirt that by wearing it you are reflecting the cause and the people representing that T-shirt and we thought it would be a perfect convention celebrating women and the moms who are the basis and the heart of this movement. It was natural and very powerful!”Says Sandra Cordero, director of Families Belong Together.

For Cordero, this cause is very close to her heart since she is the daughter of Colombian immigrants. “It is a cause that moves me a lot. I feel that justice for all moms is very key and everyone has the right to seek safety and flee danger.

In just one year since Families Belong Together was formed, thousands of people have rallied against family separation, Cordero says. “We welcome immigrants and we know they are our strength. This [zero tolerance] policy and all of that administration's policies are against what we believe to be the essence of the American community, an immigrant community.”
