A 21-year-old beauty queen who was only a week away from handing over the crown to her successor passed away this weekend in Managua, Nicaragua, after a dramatic car accident.

María Angélica García Acosta, holder of the title of Miss León Community, died this Saturday after spending 35 hours in the intensive care unit of the Lenin Fonseca hospital in the capital, Managua.

According to El Nuevo Diario, on Friday morning García Costa went to a nightclub in León with a group of friends. At the end of the night the beauty queen left the night center in a car with six other people. An 18-year-old friend of the group followed the car on a motorcycle and said that the driver was accelerating and driving "irresponsibly".

Finally, the car overturned less than a mile away from the García Acosta home in the town of Charcaseca. The young man who was traveling on the motorcycle managed to help her, and with the support of another passenger, they transferred the young woman to the Óscar Danilo Rosales Argüello School Hospital.

The organizers of the contest requested by prayers for their health. Finally, the girl died of severe traumatic brain injury.

According to sources in Nicaragua, Eduardo Mercedes Méndez Granera, 25, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and now remains in a preventive cell while the case is being investigated.

"Hours before the accident, as was his custom, he asked me for permission to go out with some friends, he fixed himself and asked me if she was pretty, if the bag she was wearing matched her clothes," José Napoleón García told the aforementioned newspaper., father of the victim.
