Stephanie Rivera, who was Miss Earth Baja California 2015, passed away Wednesday after suffering a car accident in downtown San Diego with her boyfriend, businessman Michel Llamas.
According to Telemundo, Llamas was speeding [approximately 100 MPH] when he lost control of his Lamborghini and crashed into a palm tree around 1:55 am Sunday in the 900 block of N Harbor, near W Broadway.
The young Mexican woman was shot out of the vehicle, while the businessman died instantly inside the car when it burst into flames. San Diego police reported that the driver died from thermal injury and inhalation. For her part, the former beauty queen was transferred to the UCDSD Medical Center, where she died days later.
The couple's death came weeks before Llamas had to appear in court to find out the sentence to which he was to be sentenced after pleading guilty in connection with a mortgage fraud that cost Medical Marihuana Inc., which employs cannabis to make medicines and beauty products.
Joaquín Meza, director of Miss Earth Baja California, said in an interview with the Telemundo network that Rivera was a professional model who always made women aware of breast cancer detection, described her as “cute, loving, intelligent, always professional and with a good heart”.
