Monmouth County, New Jersey, authorities learned a young man of just 16 as the prime suspect in the murder of his parents, sister, and a family friend on New Year's Eve.

According to USA Today, the county attorney, Christopher J. Gramiccioni, indicated that the teenager - whose name cannot be revealed because he was a minor - is in police custody and faces four charges of murder and possession of a weapon. for illegal purposes. However, they have not yet decided whether to try him as an adult.

The crime happened 20 minutes before the clock struck 12 midnight on December 31. At that time, the shots heard in the family's home were mistaken for the fireworks of the end of the year celebrations. However, someone called the police, who upon arrival found the lifeless bodies of the suspect's father, Steven Kologi, 44; his mother, Linda Kologi, 42; his sister, Brittany Kologi, 18; and a family friend, Mary Schultz, 70.

Although there are not many details of how the shooting began, the police did reveal that the grandfather and brother of the alleged murderer managed to escape from that house unscathed.
